Family literacy is also known as intergenerational learning. It looks at how parents, children and other caring adults use literacy in their everyday lives at home and in their communities. There are opportunities to create shopping lists, follow recipes, sort socks, throughout the day and these are opportunities to learn together. Family literacy programming can take many different forms, as well.

Family Literacy Day - January 27
In 1999, ABC Life Literacy declared January 27 to be Family Literacy Day, a day “to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.”
Literacy Quebec often holds events to increase awareness and create events for families to spend time together.
